Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez reportedly wanted Everton’s Aaron Lennon when he was at Liverpool and the winger was at Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Everton winger Aaron Lennon in the January transfer window.
According to ESPN, Newcastle are interested in signing Lennon from Premier League rivals Everton this month.
It has been reported that the Magpies are considering making a move for the former Tottenham Hotspur winger.
The 30-year-old is struggling for playing time at the Toffees at the moment, with his current contract with the Merseyside outfit running out at the end of the season.
Lennon completed a permanent move from Spurs to Everton in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Post to be worth £4.5 million when Roberto Martinez was in charge of the Toffees.
This is not the first time that Benitez has (reportedly) wanted to sign the former Leeds United star.
Back in March 2009, The Daily Mail claimed that then Liverpool manager Benitez wanted to sign Lennon, who was on the books of Tottenham at the time.
It is clear that the Spaniard is a long-time admirer of Lennon, and perhaps the winger could be what Newcastle need in terms of creating more chances for the strikers.
