Jamaal Lascelles is currently the leading candidate to be handed Newcastle United’s captain’s armband.

Rafael Benitez has told the Chronicle that he still has not decided on who he will select as Newcastle United’s captain for next season.
Newcastle are searching for a new man to wear the armband, following the departure of Fabricio Coloccini.
Newcastle have a number of candidates who could be in line to lead the team next term, and Benitez admits he hasn’t made a final decision yet.
“Not yet,” Benitez said, when asked whether he’d decided on who would be Newcastle’s captain next term.

“We have to keep working hard and see how they react every day.”
Jamaal Lascelles is currently the leading candidate to be Newcastle’s captain next term.
Lascelles caught the eye with his leadership credentials last term, when he stepped into the first-team towards the end of the season.

Despite being inexperienced, Lascelles was one of the biggest presences in Newcastle’s dressing room.
Benitez would not commit to suggesting that Lascelles would be his side’s new captain, however, when asked.
“It was the first game and he was on the pitch,” Benitez said of Lascelles, who wore the captain’s armband in Newcastle’s first friendly match of the season.
“We will have to think carefully and choose the right one.”
