Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has admitted to The Northern Echo that he does not know if Chelsea-owned youngster Kenedy will remain at the club next season.

Kenedy, who can operate as a winger or as a left-back, joined Newcastle on loan from Premier League rivals Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old has scored two goals and provided one assist in six league appearances for the Magpies since his loan switch from the Blues.

Benitez has admitted that he does not know if Kenedy will be at Newcastle next season, although The London Evening Standard has calmed that the Magpies want to sign the youngster on a permanent contract in the summer of 2018.

According to The London Evening Standard, Chelsea paid Fluminense a transfer fee of £6.3million in order to secure the services of Kenedy in 2015.

“I have no idea if there is a chance we can keep him after the end of the season, so I think at the moment we have to make sure we enjoy him while he is here,” Benitez told The Northern Echo about Kenedy.

Future at Newcastle?

Kenedy has made a brilliant impact at Newcastle, and it would make sense for the Magpies to sign the youngster on a permanent deal in the summer of 2018.

However, the Brazilian youngster could have hopes of playing for Chelsea, given that the Blues are a hugely ambitious club who regularly challenge for the Premier League title and compete in the Champions League.
