Rafael Benitez should consider selling Newcastle United’s Jamaal Lascelles

Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles is said to be of interest to Chelsea.

According to The Irish Sun, Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez will demand that all bids are rejected for Jamaal Lascelles, which could be an error of judgement.

Chelsea are said to be chasing Lascelles, and as an English player Newcastle can sell the centre-back at a premium.

Already price-tags of around £40 million have been talked about for the 24-year-old – and if Newcastle were to receive an offer of that sort of fee then they should seriously consider it.

Lascelles has been one of the star players this season, and his leadership skills are vital. But if Benitez was given assurances that he could re-invest that sort of money in his squad, then that could prove valuable.

Newcastle need to improve in all areas, and selling Lascelles may be taking a step back to move two forwards, if they receive a big fee for him.

And Benitez shouldn’t rule out selling Lascelles for any fee, as if Chelsea do spend big money on the defender then all parties involved could be winners from the transfer.
