Newcastle United were beaten 1-0 by Blackburn Rovers at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has told the Chronicle that he will be analysing his side’s defeat against Blackburn Rovers in training this week.

Newcastle’s run of nine straight victories came to an end last weekend, as they slipped to a 1-0 loss to Blackburn at St. James’ Park.

A goal from Charlie Mulgrew proved to be the difference between the two sides.

And Benitez insists that he does not intend to let his players forget the defeat easily.

“I told the players that we have to analyse these things,” the Newcastle boss said.

“They have to show the character and to understand how you can get through a game like that, which is something we have to learn.

“Everyone is a little bit down after a defeat – I am the first one who is not very happy – but I was expecting a difficult game, it was a difficult game, and in the end we lost.”

Newcastle still remain at the top of the Championship table, despite their defeat to Blackburn.

The Magpies’ good form meant that they had a cushion over their promotion rivals going into the weekend’s fixtures.

Newcastle are currently two points clear of second placed Brighton & Hove Albion, and six clear of Reading – who sit in third.

Newcastle’s next match comes against Hull City in the EFL Cup, before they take on Nottingham Forest in league action at the weekend.
