Newcastle United ran out 2-1 winners last night, as Rafael Benitez’s side made it three wins in a row.

Rafael Benitez has told Sky Sports that he couldn’t believe Matt Ritchie’s miss for Newcastle United last night.

Ritchie managed to arrive at the far post and seemingly only had to tap the ball in from two yards.

However, the Scottish midfielder somehow put the ball wide, with Newcastle only leading 2-1.

Ritchie could have wrapped the three points up for Benitez’s side, but instead they had to hold on in the last moments.

And Benitez admits he could laugh about it with Ritchie after the match as Newcastle won.

Benitez said: “I need to see the replay! I couldn’t believe it. I will watch the replay and hopefully we can have a laugh. If not, we will be talking with Ritchie seriously.

“He was telling me it was unbelievable he missed the chance and I was telling him about a couple of details. I felt we could manage the last five minutes a bit better.”

Newcastle’s win over Burnley was their third in a row, with Benitez’s side starting to pick up form.

The Magpies took the lead through an own goal, and then scored again in the first half when Ciaran Clark headed home.

Newcastle are now up to 13th place in the Premier League table, after their victory last night.
