Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has told the club’s official website that he thinks new signing Miguel Almiron is ‘really focussed’ after completing his move to St James’ Park.

The Magpies went into deadline day with no new signings, but have now landed two on the final day of the January transfer window.

Newcastle have brought in Monaco left back Antonio Barreca on loan until the end of the season, but the big deal has been Almiron arrive.

The Paraguayan playmaker, 24, has been linked with Newcastle for months now, and there was a long-held belief that Mike Ashley simply wouldn’t release the funds to sign him.

After 13 goals and 13 assists for Atlanta United last season, Almiron was in demand, and it looked like Newcastle would miss out on a game-changing playmaker.

However, Newcastle struck a club-record deal for Almiron earlier this week, and his deal was completed today as he penned a five-and-a-half year deal.

Newcastle fans are understandably excited about Almiron’s arrival, and Benitez has now discussed the move on the club’s official website.

Benitez has revealed that, after talking to Almiron, he noticed that Almiron is ‘really focussed’ and wants to do well for Newcastle, and believes that he can bring more quality in the final third for Newcastle.

“From talking to the lad, you can tell that he is really focussed and wants to do well,” said Benitez. “He wants to be successful and he wants to help the team, to score goals and give assists if it is possible.”

“His impact in MLS has been really good – he’s been one of the best players this year – and hopefully he can give us more competition and more quality in the final third. I am pleased that the hard work behind the scenes has ended positively and I thank everyone for their efforts,” he added.
