Newcastle United lost 4-0 away at Liverpool this afternoon.

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has told The Chronicle that the club’s transfer situation in January will be tough after a discussion with Lee Charnley.
The Magpies were in action today as they took on Liverpool in the Premier League, as Benitez returned to Anfield to face a daunting task against his former club.
Dejan Lovren had Liverpool 1-0 up at half time, before Mohamed Salah, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho all found the net to give the Reds a thumping 4-0 win.
Having failed to break down Fulham on Saturday, a 4-0 thrashing wasn’t exactly what Newcastle fans will have wanted on Boxing Day, and some are already looking towards January.
It’s clear that Newcastle need new faces in next month’s transfer window to be absolutely sure of safety in the top flight, but whether they will arrive or not is another matter.
Benitez has a famously small budget at his disposal, and with Mikey Ashley seemingly no closer to securing a deal to sell the club, he is unlikely to have a boost to his budget.

Now, with Newcastle strongly linked with Atlanta United’s Miguel Almiron, Benitez has told The Chronicle that he has spoken to managing director Charnley, but remains of the belief that signings won’t be easy in January.
“Yes, I was talking with Lee Charnley and still I have the same feeling: that it will not be easy,” said the Spaniard after today’s defeat on Merseyside.
