Andros Townsend left Newcastle United to join Crystal Palace last summer.
Rafael Benitez has told the Chronicle has remained coy about Newcastle United’s reported interest in signing Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend.
Newcastle are believed to be interested in bringing Townsend back to St. James’ Park in the coming weeks.
The Magpies reportedly feel that the England international would enhance the quality of their attack.
However, Benitez would not confirm whether Newcastle were interested in the Crystal Palace man, when he was asked.
“We are not talking about names,” Benitez said.
“There are a lot of good players in England and around the world that will be good for us.
“We have some options, a couple of them could be really good. Someone I like a lot, so hopefully we can progress.
“We are watching everything – it is easier to bring a player on loan with an option or obligation. We are working on that and I have confidence we can do well.”
Townsend made 13 Premier League appearances for Newcastle towards the back end of last season, and scored four times.
The skilful winger decided to jump ship after they were relegated, but he has struggled at Palace.
Townsend has failed to hold down a first-team place at Selhurst Park, meaning there is a thought that he could be available in the coming weeks.
Newcastle are thought to have money to spend, as they look to ensure they earn promotion this term.
