Tim Krul joined Ajax on loan from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has told The Chronicle that he does not plan to bring back Tim Krul in the January transfer window.

Krul joined Dutch giants Ajax on a season-long loan deal from Championship club Newcastle in the summer of 2016.

According to The Chronicle, the 28-year-old goalkeeper is unhappy at the Amsterdam outfit as he is not getting playing time.

It has been reported that Ajax would be happy to cut short Krul’s loan deal and send him back to the Magpies in the January transfer window.

Newcastle manager Benitez, though, has made it clear that he is not looking to bring back the Netherlands international goalkeeper.

The Spaniard has pointed out that he already had three goalkeepers in his squad – Rob Elliot, Matz Sels and Karl Darlow.

Newcastle's Tim Krul

“We have a special situation because we’ve got three very good goalkeepers,” Benitez told The Chronicle regarding the prospect of Krul’s return.

“It’s not easy, especially when one is doing very well and the others have to wait. But I prefer to have this problem than to be unsure.

“If you have any injuries or suspensions you don’t want to lose games because of not having good goalkeepers.

“I prefer to have the three goalkeepers and nobody will go. The rumours about Tim Krul coming back? No chance because we have these three and we’re happy with them.”

According to a recent report in The Guardian, Premier League giants Chelsea are interested in signing Krul in the January transfer window.

The Blues are reportedly facing the possibility of losing Asmir Begovic move to Premier League rivals Bournemouth this month.
