Newcastle United are set to face Preston North End in the EFL Cup later this evening.
Rafael Benitez has told the Telegraph that Newcastle United will name a strong line-up for their match against Preston North End in the EFL Cup tonight.
Newcastle are set to be backed by a staggering 46,000 supporters at St. James’ Park this evening.
And Benitez wants to ensure that Newcastle impress their fans, by ensuring that they make it into the quarter-finals of the competition.
“You can see what it means to the fans and this club. It’s another reason why I’m pleased – everyone is pushing in the same direction,” he said.
“It’s important because I want to win every game. I will try to do my best in this competition. If we have a lot of injuries in the squad and we need points in the league, then I will have to decide [what the approach is].
“But at this moment we can approach it trying to win and to go through. Always, I try to win every game.”
Benitez has generally rotated his Newcastle team throughout the campaign so far, so some changes can be expected, but it seems that the Spaniard is taking the EFL Cup seriously.
Preston will pose a test for the Magpies, though, as Simon Grayson’s men have picked up some impressive results of late.
North End beat Norwich City 1-0 at Carrow Road in Championship action in their latest outing, and will travel to Tyneside full of confidence.
Newcastle, though, have won their last five matches in a row, and they appear to be hitting top form.
Newcastle have made it to this stage of the EFL Cup by beating Cheltenham Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
