Newcastle United centre-back Ciaran Clark made his first start for six matches in his side’s last outing.
Clark was selected to play for Newcastle at Burnley, in what was the defender’s first start for six matches.
The 29-year-old was picked to start in Newcastle’s three-man defence, as the Magpies won 2-1 at Turf Moor.
“I think he did well. The three centre-backs had to adapt to two strong strikers, and after they put more big lads on the pitch,” Benitez said.
“I think they did really well. For someone who was not playing to play at the level he played, I’m really pleased with him.”
Clark actually scored Newcastle’s second goal of the game, as Benitez’s side raced into a 2-0 lead.
Burnley did peg them back, but Newcastle held strong to claim their third win on the bounce.
Clark has actually been linked with a move away from St. James’ Park in January, but his latest performance may well mean that Benitez doesn’t consider a sale.
Whether Clark stays in Newcastle’s team for the long-term future remains to be seen, as Jamaal Lascelles is edging closer to full fitness.
