Rob Elliot has replaced Karl Darlow as Newcastle United’s number one stopper this season.

Rob Elliot may not have done too much wrong since being promoted to Newcastle’s first choice stopper, but he also hasn’t done anything outstanding.

And, given that Darlow kept goal while Newcastle earned promotion last term, it may be time to recall the 27-year-old.
Darlow has had to watch on from the sidelines throughout the season so far, and he may feel slightly harshly treated.

The former Nottingham Forest man was solid throughout last season, and it is arguable whether Elliot has proven to be an upgrade.
With Newcastle losing their last four matches, Rafael Benitez needs to find the winning formula sooner rather than later, and that may include bringing Darlow back into his side’s starting line-up.
Newcastle are next in action this evening, when they take on West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
