Rafael Benitez has told the Telegraph that he still needs to make a decision over Freddie Woodman’s future at Newcastle United.

Woodman made his senior debut for Newcastle against Luton Town in the FA Cup, and the youngster did not cover himself in glory.

Woodman could have done more with Luton’s goal in the contest, as Newcastle picked up a 3-1 victory.

The prospect may need more game time to sharpen up, before he becomes a genuine candidate to be first-choice stopper at Newcastle.

And Benitez has hinted that a move could be a possibility for Woodman in the coming weeks.

“He needs to enjoy this moment because we have won and he was part of it,” Benitez said.

“After that we will decide what is best for him and the club. We have to be professional and I’ve spoken with his agent, they know the situation.”

Newcastle picked up their victory over Luton in fairly comfortable circumstances, with an Ayoze Perez brace and a Jonjo Shelvey goal putting them into a commanding position.

Luton’s top scorer, Danny Hylton, did strike a consolation for the League Two side, but it was not to be enough.

Newcastle will find out who they face in the fourth round of the competition later this evening, when the draw is made live on the BBC.
