The Magpies are preparing for a season in the Championship.
Rafael Benitez has explained that many members of Newcastle’s squad have already told him that they plan to stay and help the club try and get back into the Premier League at the first attempt, the Chronicle claims.
The Chronicle reports that Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum’s futures remain up in the air, but Benitez has insisted that while some have been linked with leaving, several players remain committed to the Magpies despite their relegation to the Championship.
“I have been asked about players wanting to leave. But I have had more players telling me they want to stay. That is positive,” he told the Chronicle.
The Chronicle claims that Ayoze Perez, Karl Darlow, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Vurnon Anita and Jamaal Lascelles are planning to stay at St James’ Park beyond the summer.
And with all of the quintet showing glimpses of real quality at times this past season, and with a boss that has won the Champions League and managed some of the biggest clubs in Europe at the helm, Newcastle surely have the foundations in place to ensure that they are in a fantastic position to go back up immediately.
And that should also help the club convince those thinking of leaving that the structure is in place that would not only allow the side to get back to the top flight at the first attempt, but to then make the impression at the highest level that they have struggled to make in recent years.
