Newcastle United are yet to make a signing in the January transfer window.
Rafael Benitez has told the Chronicle that he is hoping to have Newcastle United’s first signing wrapped up before the weekend.
Newcastle are known to be on the hunt for additions, but they have not completed any business so far.
The Magpies have been left frustrated, with many of their first choice targets proving unavailable.
However, Benitez is refusing to give up on his search to add quality to his Newcastle squad.
And the Spanish boss has suggested that Newcastle could have a new player involved for their match against Brentford on Saturday.
“We have been trying to get some players but their clubs are doing well and they don’t want to sell some of them,” Benitez admitted.
“Now we have to continue searching for something different, ones who can give us the balance that everybody is talking about.
“There is no rush, but at the same time, we want to get the deals done as soon as possible.
“Hopefully, we can do it before Brentford but you never know.”
Newcastle are thought to have money to spend, as Benitez looks to ensure his side earn promotion.
The Magpies have lost four of their last eight matches, and have slipped down to second place in the Championship table.
Newcastle still have a six point advantage over third placed Reading, but they are eager to put further distance between themselves and Jaap Stam’s side over the coming weeks.
