Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez masterminded a victory over Manchester United yesterday.

Rafael Benitez’s comments to the Chronicle surely serve as his strongest indication yet that he wants to stay at Newcastle United.

Newcastle won 1-0 against Manchester United yesterday, in what was arguably Benitez’s best win during his time in charge at St. James’ Park.

However, when asked if it ranked as his most important victory at Newcastle yet, Benitez’s response was telling.

The Spaniard said: “Hopefully it will not be my biggest win with Newcastle, hopefully we will have bigger wins than this one.”

Benitez’s future at Newcastle has been heavily speculated about, due to a lack of investment in January.

It is widely thought that Benitez wants to stay at Newcastle, but a takeover may have to go through to keep him on Tyneside, and his comments certainly suggest that he is planning to remain on Tyneside for the long-term.

If Benitez is planning for the future, then it will surely be imperative that Newcastle stay in the Premier League.

The Magpies have moved up to 13th place in the top flight, following their victory over United, but they are far from out of trouble.

Newcastle are still only two points above the drop zone, with their next match coming against Bournemouth.
