Graham Carr has been put under pressure at Newcastle United, due to the club’s poor recruitment record in recent seasons.
Rafael Benitez has told the Shields Gazette that he has not problems working with chief scout Graham Carr at Newcastle United.
Carr is under pressure at St. James’ Park, after many of the players he has brought to Tyneside in recent seasons have flopped.
Carr has recommended the likes of Florian Thauvin and Remy Cabella to Newcastle, only for them to turn out to be poor signings.
As part of the conditions of him staying on, Benitez has demanded full control over Newcastle’s transfers from now on.
The Magpies board have granted Benitez his wish, and there were suggestions that Carr could have moved on as a result.
However, the Shields Gazette claim that Carr is set to stay at Newcastle, even with reduced influence over the transfers the club make.
And Benitez said: “What I have is the conviction that I can tell the fans that they don’t need to be worried about that.
“We will try to bring the best players possible, and we will try to have a very strong squad.
“I will take responsibility if we need to do it.
“I have had different meetings with different people, and I am quite happy. We will work hard and improve the team as much as we want.
“I don’t have any problem (with Carr).
“I don’t want to talk about that, because it is the first Press conference, but you will see that we can work hard and we can improve the team and it will not be a problem.”
Benitez’s agreement that he will stay at Newcastle has provided a massive boost to the North East club, following their relegation to the Championship.
Newcastle are currently the heavy favourites to win the second tier, with expectations rising at St. James’ Park.
