Newcastle United beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 in the EFL Cup yesterday.

Rafael Benitez has told the Chronicle that he felt both Archaf Lazaar and Daryl Murphy put in good performances on their debuts for Newcastle United.
The pair both were selected to start in Newcastle’s 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the EFL Cup yesterday evening.
And Benitez was happy with Lazaar’s and Murphy’s contributions, as they helped the Tynesiders progress to the fourth round.

“They were working very hard, that what you expect from them,” Benitez said, when assessing the two summer signings’ performances.
“Sometimes players on their debuts play a fantastic game or they do nothing, but what they have to do – it doesn’t matter – is work hard and they did it.
“They both did their jobs.”

Newcastle’s victory against Wolves was fairly comfortable, after they took a 2-0 lead in the first-half.
Matt Ritchie scored Benitez’s side’s first goal of the game, before Yoan Gouffran slammed home only minutes later.
Wolves rarely threatened after that, meaning the Magpies had a straightforward route into the fourth round of the competition.
Newcastle have now won six of their last seven matches, and are currently in third place in the Championship table.
