Could Newcastle United be busy in the summer transfer window?

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has suggested to The Chronicle that the club are already planning for the summer transfer window.
The Magpies made a number of signings in the summer of 2016, including Dwight Gayle and Isaac Hayden, but they did not bring in a single new player in the January transfer window.
Benitez’s side are playing in the Championship this season, but there is a very good chance that they could get promoted to the Premier League for the 2017-18 campaign.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea manager has suggested that Newcastle are already planning for signings in the summer of 2017.
“The way we work is to prepare for the transfer window and we didn’t do anything in January,” Benitez told The Chronicle.
“Now I am more focused on the players but the scouts are analysing big things for the future, watching games and filing reports. There will be future meetings to analyse the market.
“The difficult thing here is you don’t know if we will be in the Premier League or the Championship but we are still looking for good players, then we will have some time to see what our targets are.
“At the moment we’re just monitoring players to make sure we have some good players and then we will see if we can get the player or not.”
Newcastle are not running away with the Championship title this season, but the fans should be optimistic about finishing the season in the top two.
It is really progressive of Benitez and the Magpies to start planning for next season and to scout players to sign in the summer transfer window.
The Magpies will return to action on Monday evening when they take on Aston Villa at St. James’ Park in the Championship.
