Could Aleksandar Mitrovic leave Newcastle United in the January transfer window?
Mitrovic has struggled for playing time at Newcastle so far this season and has managed to make only two substitute appearances in the Premier League.
During the 2016-17 campaign, the Serbia international striker made 11 starts in the Championship for the Magpies, scoring four goals and providing six assists in the process.
The 23-year-old’s former club, Anderlecht, want to sign him on loan in the January transfer window, as reported by The Shields Gazette.
Newcastle manager Benitez, though, has suggested that he is not thinking about moving o the Serbia striker yet.
“Every player who is not playing, the closer we get to January, there could be a rumour in the press,” The Shields Gazette quotes Benitez as saying about Mitrovic. “But, at the moment, we’re working with 26 players in the squad to try to improve them. I cannot say ‘I want to do this or that’, because maybe we cannot.
“I had this conversation with an agent the other day, I said ‘you have to wait until December to see where we are because if I say yes, he can go, after that we could have an injury’. So why do I have to sell my player if I don’t have a replacement?
“Then you go for the replacement and it’s £30million, or he wants to wait until next year, or won’t come because we don’t play Champions League.
“So why do I have to agree to something now when have two months to go? Are we working on names? Yes, you have to be ready.”
Mitrovic has been on the books of Newcastle since the summer of 2015 when he joined from Anderlecht for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £13 million.
The Serbian is a good striker, and he does deserve more chances than he is getting at St. James’ Park at the moment.
