Newcastle United have previously used Chelsea’s Kenedy at left-wing.
Kenedy has been brought to Newcastle from Chelsea on loan, and the Brazilian full-back has made a great start to life at St. James’ Park.
Kenedy has so far been used as a left-winger, but Benitez has suggested that he could become an attacking left-sided defender in the future, to provide competition for Paul Dummett.
“We have got somebody else to come in and do something different [to Dummett], Kenedy will more or less bring that to us,” the Spanish boss said.
“Kenedy is a winger that can play as an offensive full-back when we need.
“They are two different roles.”
Kenedy does have experience of playing at left-back, as it was a role he was often given at Chelsea.
Benitez is unlikely to want an attacking full-back at the weekend when his side take on Manchester United, so Dummett’s place in Newcastle’s line-up looks secure for the time being.
Kenedy, meanwhile, will surely continue in his position as Newcastle’s left-winger.
Although the Chelsea loanee is yet to score, he has been Newcastle’s biggest threat in both games he has featured in so far.
Kenedy has helped Newcastle pick up points against Burnley and Crystal Palace, but Benitez’s men are still looking nervously over their shoulders.
The Magpies are currently in 16th place in the Premier League table, just one point above the drop zone.
