Newcastle United are set to be active in the January transfer window.
Rafael Benitez has confirmed to the Chronicle that Newcastle United will be trying to upgrade their squad in the January transfer window.
Newcastle could lose four players to the African Cup of Nations in 2017, and Benitez wants to cover for the void that could leave in his squad.
The Spanish boss is determined to bring in quality at the next opportunity, but Benitez insists Newcastle’s squad will cope even if they are unsuccessful in their pursuit of new additions.
“If we have to bring somebody in, we have to keep it in our heads that we will lose maybe four players for the African Cup of Nations,” he said.
“We are looking for players in a certain position.
“I have analysed with the staff and we can manage if we don’t find the right player.
“But obviously we will try to improve the squad.”
Newcastle are already two points clear at the top of the Championship table, but Benitez is determined not to let his side rest on their laurels.
Newcastle are said to be on the hunt for high profile additions, which they feel could play at Premier League level (Chronicle).
Mike Ashley is expected to back Benitez with the funds required to strengthen his squad.
Newcastle have already been linked with the likes of Josh Windass and Daryl Horgan, ahead of the upcoming transfer window (The Scottish Sun).
