Newcastle United have completed two new signings so far this summer.

Rafael Benitez has confirmed to the Daily Mirror that Newcastle United could have the funds to complete a marquee signing this summer.

Newcastle have so far been frustrated in the transfer window, with many of their planned signings not working out.

Newcastle have only been able to bring in Florian Lejuene and Christian Atsu to date, but they are also on the verge of taking Jacob Murphy to St. James’ Park.

And Benitez has confirmed that he still has the funding to spend big on one player.

“I asked the question to Mike if I can spend all the money on one player or if I must spend it on many players,” the Spanish boss said.

“He said that the budget is mine and I can do what I want with the numbers he has given me. It is the same with wages.

“We still have time to buy players until the end of next month and I am confident that we will do it.”

Benitez has begun to put the pressure on Newcastle’s board to start securing transfers, but the impeding arrival of Murphy should help to relieve some tensions.

Murphy has been one of Benitez’s top targets this summer, and there is hope that the youngster could develop into a major attacking weapon on Tyneside.

Newcastle are still expected to bring more fresh faces to St. James’ Park this summer, even with Murphy arriving.

The Magpies’ Premier League season begins on August 13th, with a match against Tottenham Hotspur.
