But it seems that contract talks have not progressed since the summer, with the Spanish boss’s future still unclear
“Have there been contract talks? No,” Benitez admitted, when asked.

Benitez is understood to want more funds at Newcastle before he commits to signing a new contract, while Ashley wants the former Liverpool manager to secure his future before providing him with any more money (Chronicle).
It has created somewhat of a standoff between manager and owner, as Newcastle run out of time to get Benitez tied down to a long-term contract.
Newcastle are yet to win a match this season, with their next game coming against Arsenal.
