Is the West Bromwich Albion-owned striker about to hit form for Newcastle United?

Rafael Benitez has told The Northern Echo that he might be interested in signing Salomon Rondon for Newcastle United on a permanent basis – if he maintains his goalscoring form.
The West Bromwich Albion-owned striker scored his first two Premier League goals for Newcastle on Saturday as Benitez’s side edged out Bournemouth at St James’s Park.
Rondon, on £60,000 per week with West Brom [Silly Season], fired the Magpies ahead within seven minutes, before then executing a brilliant thumping header shortly before the break.
It was only United’s second Premier League win of what had been a very tough season up until opening their account at home to Watford last week.
And someone of Rondon’s credentials could go a long, long way toward helping Benitez’s troops stay in the top flight – if he can maintain this form.
The 29-year-old was originally thought to be available on a free transfer when his loan on Tyneside expires, but West Brom triggered a 12-month extension to ensure he will not be leaving The Hawthorns for free.
The Spanish manager told The Northern Echo: “Now is not the time to talk about that, just enjoy the goals he scored. I have no idea about the terms of the contract, but if he keeps scoring two goals a game, of course …
“I don’t know the terms of the contract or when we discuss that. I’m not that interested, if he keeps scoring goals, Lee Charnley will be looking at the terms of the contract and worrying about that.”
