Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that he has been informed about the latest developments on the club’s takeover, but he is only focused on the game ahead.
The Magpies will face Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday, and Benitez is concentrating on the game, rather than the off-field issues.
According to reports from The Sun, Mike Ashley and Amanda Staveley have had a face-to-face talk in a London curry house on Wednesday.
The Sports Direct tycoon is keen to sell the club, and Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners are the front-runners to buy it.
The report claims that it is unlikely that the deal will go through in time for the new owners to sanction funds for Benitez to spend in the January transfer window.
When asked whether he has been given assurances of a potential takeover, the Spaniard has a two-word reply: “Not yet.”
Benitez also added that he is “hoping” that he will be provided funds to bring in new players that will help them to stay in the Premier League.
“We had a meeting in May & I am expecting that the money we did not spend in August to be available in January. I hope to have a meeting soon,” said Benitez in the press conference, as quoted by The Chronicle.
