Matt Ritchie is set to miss out on playing in Newcastle United’s match against Cardiff City.
Rafael Benitez has been quoted by The Mag suggesting that Newcastle United are facing a problem, as Matt Ritchie is suspended for his side’s next match against Cardiff City.
Ritchie has picked up five yellow cards so far this season, and it means that the winger will have to sit on the sidelines at the weekend.
And Benitez admits that he faces a problem, as a result of Ritchie’s absence, as he is such a crucial player for Newcastle.
“It is always a problem when you lose an important player [like Matt Ritchie] but at the same time, it is the opportunity for others to show they are good enough,” Benitez said.
“They have been doing that this season and I think it’s an opportunity for another to show the level that he has.”
Ritchie has been one of Newcastle’s stand out players so far this season, with his attacking quality causing opposition teams a number of problems.
The former Bournemouth man has netted four goals and claimed seven assists in his 16 matches for Newcastle to date.
Ritchie looks likely to be replaced by Christian Atsu, for Newcastle’s match against Neil Warnock’s side.
Atsu has generally been used as an impact substitute during his time with the Magpies so far, and has only started two Championship matches so far.
If Newcastle are able to beat Cardiff, they will further consolidate their position at the top of the Championship table.
