Leeds United are closing in on Rafa Mujica. Could this be good news for Ryan Edmondson?
Leeds United are nearing the capture of Barcelona youngster Rafa Mujica.
Mujica confirmed his exit from Barcelona last night, 24 hours after Spanish outlet Zona Amarilla had said he was very close to Leeds.
Mujica scored seven goals for Barcelona’s B team last season, and injuries hampered his chances at the club, FCBarca reported.
It’s likely he would begin with Leeds’ under-23 team, and this could be good news for Whites talent Ryan Edmondson.
Edmondson finished as top scorer for Leeds’ under-23s last season, helping them clinch the division title.
He has made clear he is hoping to step up and compete for a first team spot, having made his debut in 2018.
Mujica coming into the club, and settling into an under-23 role at first, presses Leeds into a decision over Edmondson.
He needs to challenge himself, and this could be with the first team or a loan. Mujica’s arrival would mean he is almost certainly no longer needed with the under-23s.
Edmondson must seize his chance in pre-season. He did a decent job last year, scoring in a friendly match.
Mujica will take time to settle in England if he signs. Edmondson is ready to step up and challenge for a first team spot right away.
