Wolverhampton Wanderers’ deal for Rafa Mir attracted a lot of attention during the January transfer window.

When Rafa Mir arrived at Wolves during the January transfer window, the club’s supporters would have been forgiven for being incredibly excited about the deal and believing that it may prove to be the move that would ensure Nuno Espirito Santo’s side’s promotion to the Premier League.

The Express and Star reported at the time of his arrival at Molineux that he had cost £1.5 million from Valencia having recently been on Real Madrid’s radar. Beating Los Blancos to their new number nine would be a massive coup for any club – let alone one that currently finds itself in the Championship.

However, Mir has not enjoyed the best start to life with Wolves. He is yet to score in any of his four appearances for the first-team and his performance in the FA Cup defeat by Swansea was criticised by the supporters.

And in his latest outing, he looked extremely poor as he started in Wolves’ under-23 side’s embarrassing 6-1 defeat to their Aston Villa counterparts earlier this week.

The 20-year-old had chances to make an impact in the game, but failed to take any of them as Wolves crashed to a humiliating loss that ended their nine-game unbeaten run in emphatic fashion.

It is undoubtedly too soon to even consider writing the young striker off, but he needs to step his game up dramatically in the coming months if he hopes to live up to the hype that surrounded his initial arrival at Molineux.
