Newcastle reportedly want Sebastien Haller in January.

With two wins in their last two games, there is a renewed sense of positivity at Newcastle United, with Rafael Benitez now looking to continue that form after the international break.

The Magpies beat Watford 1-0 before picking up a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth, finally giving fans something to shout about after a dismal start to the campaign.

Fans are now hoping that Benitez – out of contract at the end of the season – will be convinced to stay, with January spending almost certainly needed in order to accomplish that.

The Northern Echo recently reported that Benitez has already found Newcastle’s number one January transfer target, with Eintracht Frankfurt man Sebastien Haller top of his wish list.

Haller would undoubtedly be a stunning signing for Newcastle. The French target man, who left Utrecht for Frankfurt in 2017, has the physicality and deadly finishing that Newcastle need, as well as room to develop at just 24.

However, there must already be fears that Haller is out of Newcastle’s range. Before the international break, Haller scored in a 3-0 win over Schalke, meaning he has now scored in six straight games.

With 10 goals and seven assists in just 15 games this season, Haller is in red-hot form and simply can’t be stopped, and whilst that must be cementing Newcastle’s view on him, it’s also sending his asking price higher and higher, and attracting more and more interest.

Newcastle beating off other major clubs in a move that would surely cost more than £20million – a Newcastle club record if it happened – would be a perfect move in 2019, but with Mike Ashley at the helm and Benitez’s future unclear, Haller may just be slipping out of reach already as he continues to excel in Germany.
