Newcastle United have struggled to attract top level players to St James’ Park over the past few years.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez addressed the media yesterday, ahead of his side’s clash with Burnley on Monday night, and suggested that it will be extremely difficult for him to bring in players of sufficient quality in January, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
The Magpies made a woeful start to their Premier League campaign, but there have been signs recently that they are well on their way to Premier League survival, with two consecutive league wins.
Benitez’s side now sit comfortably in 14th spot in the table, and the Toon Army will be feeling a whole lot better about things.
The Spaniard spoke to reporters yesterday, and admitted that it will be a real challenge for him to bring quality players into Newcastle during the January transfer window, as quoted by the Daily Mail:

“It’s January so it’s quite difficult – it’s not a question of much (money), it’s a question of how to find the right player. It’s quite a difficult window because the top-class players normally are playing in the Champions League and with top teams, so it’s very difficult for them to change. We don’t have too many options so we have to keep working hard and if we find the right player then we have to start talking about that.”
Despite the fact that Newcastle are in a fairly comfortable position in the league table, it is painfully evident that they need to strengthen in January, but judging by Benitez’s comments, they might just have to make do with what they already have.
