The defender had been expected to leave Newcastle United this summer.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has told Sky Sports he has told Daryl Janmaat that the fact he is still at the club shows he is in his plans.
The full back was expected to leave St James Park this summer as part of Benitez’s overhaul at the club.
He appeared to have been pushed further down the pecking order thanks to the arrival of Jesus Gamez from Atletico Madrid.
He is yet to appear for the club, missing out on the squad for the win over Bristol City last weekend.
Newcastle’s Daryl Janmaat in action with Fulham’s Floyd Ayite
Last week saw Goal claim that West Ham United were interested in his signature, but Benitez says he has told the Dutchman he is in his plans and it will take a fantastic offer for them to sell.
“I told him the other day that the fact he’s here means he’s a player I like,” he told Sky Sports.
“He’s a good professional and I don’t have any problems with that. If somebody comes with a fantastic offer to us for him, we will analyse that. For the moment he is a player who is in our team and squad.”
Newcastle United’s Daryl Janmaat looks dejected at the end
It now remains to be seen if Janmaat does end up leaving Newcastle before the end of the transfer window.
Benitez’s comments hint demonstrates that the Magpies will not be selling unless they receive a big offer for his services.
It will be interesting to see if there is anyone willing to make such a bid, with his performances last season unlikely to have left clubs queuing up.
