Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez spoke to reporters today, ahead of his side’s clash with Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night, and delivered a potentially concerning injury update, with four key players doubtful for the match, as quoted by the Chronicle.

The Magpies have endured a difficult start to their 2018/19 Premier League campaign, taking just one point from their opening three games, and the last thing they need is an exit from the Carabao Cup to lower league opposition.

On the other hand, a win at the City Ground could be just what Newcastle need to help reinvigorate their campaign.

They will be far from full strength against Forest, though.

Benitez spoke to reporters, and delivered a somewhat worrying injury update ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with the Reds, as quoted by the Chronicle:

“Lascelles, Manquillo & Shelvey are doubts. They need to be assessed in next few days. Ritchie also has a knock to his knee. Some young players may get a chance because of that.”

Whatever team Benitez chooses, they will still be backed vociferously by the Toon Army, and it should be a great atmosphere at the City Ground.

The game kicks off at 19:45, and can be seen exclusively live on Sky Sports main event.
