Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has told the Chronicle he believes they are close to making another signing.
The Magpies have been extremely busy this summer, with eight new players arriving at St James Park so far.
It has been something of an overhaul from the Spaniard as he looks to build a squad capable of dominating the Championship this season.
Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle celebrates scoring their third goal
More signings are looking likely though, with the Chronicle reporting that he could complete another three deals in the next week.
And Benitez has appeared to corroborate that report; by saying that he believes they are close to completing their latest capture.
“I am in contact with Lee Charnley everyday,” he told the Chronicle.
“We are talking about possible targets and players that have to here. It’s not easy and depends on a lot of thing, but I think we are close to something. We are also working in terms of players leaving.”
Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko looks dejected after missing a chance to score
It remains to be seen which positions the Magpies will look to improve before the end of the transfer window.
Much is likely to rest on the players leaving the club, namely Moussa Sissoko. Should he depart, a new winger will surely be placed at the top of their wish list.
Beyond that it is hard to see where they will target additions, with their signings so far this summer having seem them improve in several areas already.
