Rafael Benitez was left frustrated by Newcastle United’s business during the summer transfer window. The Spaniard added six players, but he wanted to bring in more quality players.

Speculations were rife that Benitez could leave the club, but he stayed on. And after guiding Newcastle to a promising start, he is already looking forward to the January transfer window.

Benitez said that the Magpies are tracking players in “every position”, and he is hopeful that the Tyneside club will be active in their recruitment, this time around.

According to reports from The Chronicle, transfer funds will be available in the new year for Benitez. And new players are expected to arrive in January.

The report claims that Benitez has a list of possible targets for every position, but he is prioritizing signing a new no. 10, a left-back and a striker.

Benitez admitted that the Magpies should concentrate on certain positions which they need to strengthen, but at the same time, they must not forget about other areas, because some big clubs can come up with a massive amount of money or a position can also be weakened due to a player’s long-term injury.

“What you have to do is to look for players in every position,” said Benitez in an interview with the local Press, as quoted by The Chronicle. If you are thinking, ‘Oh, we are fine in this position’, then maybe someone will come with a massive offer for a player, maybe you have a long-term injury.

“So you have to concentrate on certain positions you know you need to strengthen, but still you must not forget about the others because something could happen.

“In the last window when the fans were talking saying: ‘Oh, we need a No 10. Oh, we need this. Oh, we need that. Oh Rafa is talking about the ‘keeper, why is he not talking about the striker?’ We were already working on Joselu, but you cannot say to them: ‘Listen, we are working on this.’

“We have time so we can work on the keeper and the striker and the No 10 or whatever.”
