Rafael Benitez has finally opened up on Newcastle United takeover talks.
Speculations about Newcastle United takeover talks have been rife in recent weeks, and Rafael Benitez has reportedly met Amanda Staveley following the Magpies’ 1-1 draw against Liverpool before the international break.
Benitez has responded to talk of Staveley’s Newcastle takeover, saying injection of funds could help him bring the right profile of players. However, he adds that the takeover will not change his approach to recruitment.
According to reports from The Chronicle, Benitez met Staveley after last weekend’s match with Liverpool.
Reports have been doing the rounds that she is ready to talk terms with current Newcastle owner Mike Ashley. The Newcastle owner is reportedly open to offers, if potential investors can meet his asking price.
Staveley is planning to take control of the Premier League club through her firm PCP Capital Partners, and she is considering making an offer to Newcastle.
It is not something in Benitez’s hands, and all he can do is improve his team to the best of his potential and resources. However, as he rightly says, if there is more available, he would be able to bring in different qualities of players.
“It doesn’t change our approach in terms of what we have to do,” said Benitez, as quoted by The Chronicle.
“We just have to keep working and looking forward at players in different positions. Maybe if you have more money you can go from this player to this player but what you’re looking for is the characteristics of the players.”
