Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has praised Ayoze Perez to the Chronicle after the striker’s goalscoring display against Ipswich Town.
The Spaniard returned to the Magpies starting line-up for the clash against Mick McCarthy’s side at St James Park on Saturday afternoon.
It proved to be a smart decision from Benitez, with Perez bagging two of his sides three goals in the 3-0 victory.
The brace took him to five goals in all competitions this season and will have helped him get over the disappointment of missing out on a first-team place in recent weeks.

And his manager was more than pleased for him but says the goals are also important for the sake of competition in the team.
“It’s important for him because he’s been doing well and working hard,” he told the Chronicle.
“I think it’s good for him personally but also for the team, it means you can change players and they will have to compete. They will get many chances.”

The result leaves Newcastle United sitting top of the Championship table after 14 games of the campaign.
More importantly, it means they have now moved three points clear of Brighton and Huddersfield currently behind them on 28 points.
They will be keen to stay where they are for as long as possible, starting with another win when they take on Preston in their next game.
