The Magpies are currently third in the Championship table.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has told the Chronicle that consistency remains the big thing his side must find this season.
The Magpies have made a strong start to the campaign, picking up 15 points from their first eight games.
They had gone on a five-game winning streak to help them move up the table after losing their first two games of the season.
That had left confidence high at the club but they were brought back down to earth last weekend as they were beaten 2-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It was a reality check for Benitez’s side but he insists one result is not enough to change his thinking.
“I’ve said before that we need consistency and I have the same feeling now,” he told the Chronicle.
“One game does not change anything for me. One game bad, then one game good means we know what is the right way and we have to try to stay that way.”
One area that Newcastle definitely have to look at improving is the number of chances they are creating in games.
So far they have registered 9.6 key passes per game, which is the 13th most in the division.
They have also only managed to create 1.1 big chance per game, which is the 12th most in the division.
Both are disappointing tallies, especially given the forward line Newcastle have at their disposal and is something they will have to improve to ensure they are competing at the top of the table this year.
