Newcastle United are in a fantastic position to achieve promotion to the Premier League.
Speaking to reporters during his post-match press conference, Magpies boss Rafa Benitez expressed his delight at his side’s 2-1 victory over Burton Albion, and offered a message for Newcastle fans ahead of the club’s busy Christmas period, as quoted by the Shields Gazette.
The Tyneside outfit sit comfortably at the top of the Championship table as they head into the festive season, one point clear of second-placed Brighton & Hove Albion, and more importantly as far as their promotion hopes are concerned, eight points ahead of third-placed Reading.

And Benitez explained to reporters how his side did everything that was asked of them during their 2-1 win yesterday, whilst sharing his delight that the Newcastle fans can enjoy seeing their side sitting at the top of the table over Christmas, as quoted by the Shields Gazette:
“For us, the main thing was to get three points, be sure that the team is strong enough and be sure we have confidence in ourselves. We know we can come here, compete and win. Now it is to enjoy Christmas. Our fans will be happy, so I wish everyone a Merry Christmas. That is pleasing, because you have some time with the family, and at the same time you can look at the table and enjoy.”

From Boxing Day through to January 2nd, Newcastle face a run of three very winnable fixtures, against Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers respectively.
A return of nine points from those outings could see Benitez’ men really assert themselves in the title race, and take a giant step towards achieving promotion back to the Premier League.
