Newcastle United beat Preston North End 2-1 on Saturday.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has told the Chronicle that his team’s spirit was what impressed him most about the win over Preston North End.
The Magpies continued their fine run of form on Saturday as they overcame Simon Grayson’s team at Deepdale.
Two goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic saw Newcastle to a 2-1 win; a victory that maintained their three-point lead over Brighton & Hove Albion at the top of the Championship table.
It was another impressive display from Benitez’s side, who have now won their last six games in the league.
There were plenty of positives to take from the game but Benitez says his biggest was the team spirit that his squad showed.
“In general the team spirit,” Benitez told the Chronicle when asked what impressed him most.
“In terms of the organisation of the team, how they were working, the understanding of what they had to do, it was quite good – especially at the beginning of the second half.”
Benitez will be hoping his team continues to show more of the same spirit for the remainder of the season.
After a shaky start to the campaign, in which they lost their first two games, they have bounced back strongly, winning 11 of their 13 matches since then.
That leaves Newcastle sitting top of the division and three points clear, a healthy position to be in at this stage as they eye an instant return to the Premier League at the end of the campaign.
