Newcastle are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has been quoted by the Evening Chronicle in his Friday press conference as saying that he wants The Toon to sign players with experience this summer.
Benitez held a pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of the Toon’s last game of the season, as Newcastle welcome their manager’s former side Chelsea to St. James’ Park on Sunday.
The Magpies are expected to be busy in the summer, and will have to be if they want to keep their manager who is looking for assurances over his transfer budget before putting pen to paper on a new deal.
Benitez told the media that he wants to bring players with experience to Newcastle, with the first team lacking in any real elder statesmen of the game. Captain Jamaal Lascelles, for example, is only 24 years of age.
“We have to be quite busy in the transfer market. We need more experience. We also lose a couple of players, we have three loans. We need to add some quality to the good players we have already,” Benitez said.
The Toon have been linked with a whole host of stars from all over Europe, but the club’s activity in the summer will be down to whether owner Mike Ashley loosens his tight stringhold on the Newcastle coffers.
Newcastle will be keen to land Martin Dubravka and Kenedy on permanent deals, while a new striker is likely to be at the forefront of Benitez’s transfer agenda after the failure of Islam Slimani.
