Newcastle United are said to be paying close attention to the Ajax forward and he was superb in their recent Europa League semi-final first leg.
Europe is awash with talented teenagers but few have impressed quite like Ajax’s Kasper Dolberg.
The Danish international has scored 20 goals and provided eight assists in 44 appearances for the Eredivisie side this season; not bad when you consider he is still only 19.
Back in March the Chronicle claimed Benitez had sent Newcastle scouts to keep a close eye on Dolberg and two of his teammates – Davey Klaassen and Hakim Ziyech – and if he wants to make waves in the Premier League next season he should do all he can to sign the young forward.
Dolberg would be an instant St. James’ Park hero; a player possessing innate talent who could become one of the best in world football if he continues on his current trajectory.
With a contract until the summer of 2021, he will not come cheap, but Newcastle will know they need to make a statement in the transfer market, signing the players that can ensure they not only remain in the top flight but challenge at the right end of the table.
Dolberg is the real deal, and if Benitez was watching as he inspired his side to the brink of the Europa League final earlier this week, his stance will only have been strengthened.
