Newcastle United have been boosted by the news that DeAndre Yedlin is fit again.

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has told The Chronicle that DeAndre Yedlin has been passed fit to face Chelsea on Sunday.

The Magpies right-back missed last week’s 0-0 draw with Cardiff City with a knee injury.

The former Tottenham ace picked up the problem on Newcastle’s first Premier League game of the season against his old club at St James’s Park.

However, scans revealed that the problem was far less serious than initially feared.

Chelsea visit the North-East tomorrow and Benitez has confirmed what is a very good piece of news.

He told The Chronicle: “Yedlin has been training so he’s fine.Manquillo is better than we are expecting, but Yedlin is fine.”

It’s great news for two reason; not only is Yedlin the best right-back that Newcastle have, but it would’ve meant that Jamie Sterry started if the USA international wasn’t fit.

Javier Manquillo is expected to be absent, meaning that Sterry – who spent the second half of last season on loan in League Two – would’ve come up against the likes of Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso, two players who could’ve destroyed him tomorrow.
