The midfielder has been in fine form for Newcastle United this season.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has told the Chronicle that Jonjo Shelvey has the ability to keep up his current run of form.
The midfielder has started the season strongly for the Magpies, playing a key role in their convincing start to the campaign.
He continued his fine form on Saturday afternoon as he played a role in all three goals in the 3-1 win over Brentford.
It is an impressive turnaround in the North East for Shelvey, who had originally found himself out of the team when Benitez took over last season.
His manager has been impressed and has now backed the midfielder to continue to shine and subsequently help the team to improve their performances.
“I said before that he’s doing well, he has confidence and worked very hard over the summer to be fit and to be at the maximum level,” he told the Chronicle.
“He has the quality and can carry on with his position and control of the game – and then the strikers will have more chances and the team will play better.”
Shelvey certainly has been in impressive form for the Magpies so far and the stats back up that statement.
His two assists on Saturday afternoon took him to five for the season, the most of any player in the Championship.
He also has 27 key passes to this name, which is by far the most of any Newcastle man so far.
Those are impressive stats and if Shelvey can keep it up throughout the campaign then it will give the Magpies’ promotion hopes a huge boost.
