Newcastle are reportedly interested in signing Lyon attacker Terrier.

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Olympique Lyonnais attacker Martin Terrier in the January transfer window – and landing the Frenchman would solve two of Rafa Benitez’s problems.
French newspaper L’Equipe claim Newcastle had made an enquiry to land the exciting 21-year-old attacker, with the Tyneside club looking to lure him to St. James’ Park on loan until the end of the season.
Terrier has played in the Champions League for Lyon this season, clocking up 21 appearances in all competitions and scoring four goals. But it his versatility that should tempt Benitez into a move.
The Chronicle claimed that Newcastle want a winger and a no.10 in January, and Terrier is able to play in both positions. It means Terrier can kill two birds with one stone.
The chances of owner Mike Ashley allowing Benitez to bring in multiple players this month to patch up all of Newcastle’s holes is unlikely, despite the club being perilously close to the drop zone.
Bringing in a player that can offer cover in two of Benitez’s problem areas, then, is key and Terrier fits the bill. He has shown this season that his explosive speed allows him to play out wide or up front.

But it is his footballing intelligence and composure for a player at such a young age that allows him to thrive in the number 10 role. A quicker, perhaps more effective Ayoze Perez, if you will.
Though Lyon seem unwilling to let Terrier leave, Newcastle have to do their best and orchestrate a move as Terrier would be an excellent signing not only because he is a quality player – but because he can solve a number of Benitez’s woes.
