Newcastle need a left-back, while Moreno arguably needs a new start. He still has age on his side and the Tyneside club should make a move.
There is a very strong link between Liverpool and Newcastle United right now, largely due to the presence of Reds legend Rafa Benitez on Tyneside.
The two clubs did business to see Georginio Wijnaldum head to Anfield, while – according to The Times – there was a deal in place for Daniel Sturridge to join the Magpies before he opted for West Brom instead.
This relationship should see Benitez towards the front of the queue when any Liverpool stars become available in the transfer market.
And one man whose future will surely be called into question this summer is Alberto Moreno, the left-back having lost his place to Andrew Robertson, failing to start a league game so far in 2018.
With just a year left on his contract – per the Liverpool Echo – this is the club’s last opportunity to get a fee for Moreno, and they appear to be looking for another player in that position, too, with the Irish Mirror reporting David Alaba is among those they are interested in.
Moreno is, of course, a Spaniard and would fit in well on Tyneside, with Benitez, his coaching staff and a number of his players compatriots.
And Newcastle have a need at left-back. Jesus Gamez and Massadio Haidara are set to leave, as the Chronicle says, and Paul Dummett would be the only player remaining as a natural in that role.
Dummett is a key man at Newcastle, but he is well suited to a central defensive posting, too, and could feature alongside Moreno in a four or five-man defence.
Moreno also offers something different to the Wales international, with his best attributes in attacking areas, giving Newcastle a contrasting option on that flank.
If the Magpies survive and Benitez is given necessary funds, it would be no surprise to see him take a look at the 25-year-old Spain defender.
