A day shy of 12 months on from a 2-1 win at second tier favourites Newcastle United, David Wagner’s men sprung another surprise on the road against Crystal Palace.
A huge win for Wagner, a great day for the Huddersfield fans and a fine start, no doubt, but their best early-season performances may again come away from home as teams struggle to get to grips with their system.
Back at home, for the first time in the Premier League, Huddersfield face a surely far tougher test this coming weekend – against Newcastle.
For while Huddersfield stunned St James’ Park with their energetic pressing and counter-attacking, and repeated the trick at Selhurst Park, there will be an expectation that they dictate the tempo at home to a fellow promoted side.
And that was Wagner’s undoing against Rafa Benitez and Newcastle last season; the Magpies deservedly won 3-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium, soaking up pressure, breaking at speed and taking their chances when they came.
Newcastle will be determined to get off the mark at the second time of asking and a similar set-up from the visiting boss should ensure an intriguing encounter.
