Andrea Radrizzani is a man who lives to dream big.

But, while Leeds United’s Italian owner deserves huge credit for inspiring the bid that brought Marcelo Bielsa to Elland Road two years ago, before agreeing to spend a club-record £25 million on Spain international Rodrigo Moreno, it’s fair to say not all of Radrizzani’s punts have paid off.

He openly admitted a desire to lure Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani to West Yorkshire earlier this summer, after all.

Suddenly, those reports linking Italian football legends Francesco Totti and Gianluigi Buffon with the newly-crowned Championship champions last year do not seem quite so outlandish.

But targeting 30-something veterans and offering them one last pay day on English shores is one thing. Targeting a 25-year-old European star at the peak of his powers is another challenge altogether.

Reports emerged this week claiming that Radrizzani has approached Lazio about signing four of the most impressive performers in Italian football (and Jordan Lukaku).

These claims originated not from a rumour-spouting blog but a Il Messaggero, a respected, Rome-based publication who specialise in Lazio.

While it is exceedingly difficult to imagine Luis Alberto or 2019/20 Capocannioniere winner Ciro Immobile donning that famous white kit, an approach for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is perhaps Radrizzani’s most brazen bid yet.

After all, this is a man who Paris Saint-Germain, the Champions League finalists bankrolled by the Qatari royal family, have offered £55 million for (Corriere dello Sera).

According to his agent Mateja Kezman, the man better known as ‘SMS’ is even ‘better than Paul Pogba’ these days (Mozzart Sport).

The Serbia international was tipped to break the £100 million barrier in the recent past, and almost inspired Lazio to their first Scudetto in two decades last season.

And whenever Milinkovic-Savic feels the time is right to leave the Stadio Olimpico behind, one of Europe’s bonafide superclubs is sure to be his destination, whether a PSG, a Barcelona or a Real Madrid.

While Leeds have secured entry into the elite, there is still a velvet rope seperating them from the A-listers. Then again, as the arrivals of Bielsa and Rodrigo show, a little bit of ambition goes a long way.
