Leeds United are searching for a new manager following Jesse Marsch’s departure, and one name that has been the subject of a lot of speculation is Carlos Corberan.
The Spaniard is, of course, a manager that Leeds fans know very well. He was the U21s boss during Marcelo Bielsa’s time at the club and he also worked as one of Bielsa’s assistants at first-team level.
Corberan has been strongly linked with Leeds, and the recent actions of Leeds Chairman, Andrea Radrizzani, will only serve to add fuel to the fire.
Indeed, Radrizzani recently liked a tweet praising Corberan’s work at West Bromwich Albion, and we can’t help but think that this is a sign that he has been impressed by the Spaniard.
Corberan has been nothing short of a revelation at West Brom. He took over the Baggies in October when they were sitting in the relegation zone, and in a matter of months he has transformed them into genuine promotion contenders after Steve Bruce’s departure.
As of now, it remains to be seen whether or not Leeds will make a move for Corberan. However, Radrizzani’s twitter activity may suggest that he is someone who is on their radar.
However, given that Corberan has only just gone to West Brom and that he’s not too far off getting the Baggies into the Premier League, it’s hard to imagine that he’ll just ditch the Midlands club at this point.
The last thing you want to do as a young manager is get a reputation for being disloyal.
Corberan is certainly a coach who is making waves in the English game, and it’s no surprise that Leeds United are keeping tabs on him. However, this may end up being a case of the right man at the wrong time for Leeds as Bielsa’s old assistant continues to thrive at West Brom.
Don’t be surprised if Corberan does end up in the Leeds dugout one day though.
